Learning

Our programs at Little Echidna Early Learning Centre are grounded in a child led approach aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework. Children are encouraged to explore, investigate, and follow their interests through hands on experiences that promote curiosity, creativity, and a positive approach to learning. This supports children to become confident, resilient learners who feel capable and involved in their own learning.

Our educators work collaboratively to create responsive learning environments that evolve with each child’s interests and stage of development. Through intentional teaching and meaningful interactions, we support the development of communication, problem solving, independence, and social and emotional skills, helping children feel capable and prepared as they transition into primary school.

We also believe that everyday experiences play an important role in children’s learning. Regular cooking and gardening experiences are thoughtfully embedded into our program, giving children opportunities to explore where food comes from, develop practical life skills, and build an understanding of health, sustainability, and care for the environment.

In line with the National Quality Framework, we place strong emphasis on continuity of care, nurturing routines, and inclusive practices. By providing consistent relationships, high quality interactions, and welcoming learning spaces, we ensure every child feels a strong sense of belonging and is supported to grow, explore, and thrive.

At Little Echidna Early Learning Centre, our School Readiness Program is designed to help preschoolers feel confident and ready for primary school. We focus on more than just literacy and numeracy, we support each child’s learning, social skills, emotional wellbeing, and independence so they can start school feeling capable and prepared.

Our program supports children to develop:

  • Early literacy, numeracy, and STEM skills

  • Strong social skills and friendships

  • Confidence, resilience, and self belief

  • Emotional wellbeing and self regulation

  • Physical coordination and motor skills

  • Respect for diversity and inclusion

  • Awareness of sustainability and the environment

Our educators use small group learning and hands-on activities to make learning fun and meaningful. We tailor experiences to each child’s interests and abilities, so every child is supported in the way that suits them best.

Children also benefit from one-on-one time with educators, helping them build confidence and grow at their own pace. We use a range of engaging resources, including STEM materials, social-emotional programs, music, and creative activities.

Every six months we share detailed progress updates with families, celebrating achievements and adjusting goals to support each child’s individual journey.

Our aim is for children to feel curious, confident, and ready to thrive in their next stage of learning.
